Butter Garlic Crab

🇵🇭 Butter Garlic Crab (Filipino Style)

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg fresh crabs (alimango or alimasag), cleaned

  • 1 head garlic, minced (the more, the better!)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • ½ cup butter (or margarine)

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but adds umami)

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp calamansi or lemon juice

  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

  • 1 tbsp sugar (to balance flavors)

  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or spring onion (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the crabs – Clean thoroughly, crack the claws slightly so flavors seep in. Steam or boil for 5–7 minutes until half cooked, then set aside.
  2. Sauté aromatics – In a wide pan, heat oil + butter. Sauté garlic until golden and aromatic. Add onion and cook until translucent.
  3. Build the sauce – Add oyster sauce, soy sauce, calamansi/lemon juice, sugar, and pepper. Stir well.
  4. Cook the crabs – Toss in the half-cooked crabs, coat them well with the sauce. Cover and simmer for 5–7 minutes until fully cooked and sauce thickens.
  5. Final touch – Sprinkle chopped parsley or spring onion on top. Serve hot with steamed rice.

🔥 Pro Tips (Filipino Style):

  • Some families add a splash of Sprite or 7Up for a sweet, tangy glaze.

  • If you like it spicy, toss in a few siling labuyo (bird’s eye chili) with the garlic.

  • Best eaten kamay-kamayan style (by hand) with lots of rice!
