Butter Garlic Crab
🇵🇭 Butter Garlic Crab (Filipino Style)
Ingredients:
1 kg fresh crabs (alimango or alimasag), cleaned
1 head garlic, minced (the more, the better!)
1 medium onion, chopped
½ cup butter (or margarine)
2 tbsp cooking oil
2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but adds umami)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp calamansi or lemon juice
½ tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp sugar (to balance flavors)
2 tbsp chopped parsley or spring onion (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prep the crabs – Clean thoroughly, crack the claws slightly so flavors seep in. Steam or boil for 5–7 minutes until half cooked, then set aside.
- Sauté aromatics – In a wide pan, heat oil + butter. Sauté garlic until golden and aromatic. Add onion and cook until translucent.
- Build the sauce – Add oyster sauce, soy sauce, calamansi/lemon juice, sugar, and pepper. Stir well.
- Cook the crabs – Toss in the half-cooked crabs, coat them well with the sauce. Cover and simmer for 5–7 minutes until fully cooked and sauce thickens.
- Final touch – Sprinkle chopped parsley or spring onion on top. Serve hot with steamed rice.
🔥 Pro Tips (Filipino Style):
Some families add a splash of Sprite or 7Up for a sweet, tangy glaze.
If you like it spicy, toss in a few siling labuyo (bird’s eye chili) with the garlic.
Best eaten kamay-kamayan style (by hand) with lots of rice!
